Answer:

  • 16

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

  • Mean of 6 numbers is 11.
  • If five of the are 12, 10, 13, 7 and 8.

To find

  • The 6th number.

Solution

↦ Mean = Sum of all observations/Total number of observations

  • 11 = 12 + 10 + 13 + 7 + 8 + (x)/6
  • 11 = 50 + x/6
  • 11 × 6 = 50 + x
  • 66 = 50 + x
  • x = 66 - 50
  • x = 16

∴ The 6th number (x) is 16.

Verification

  • Mean = Sum of all observations/Total number of observations
  • 11 = 12 + 10 + 13 + 7 + 8 + 16/6
  • 11 = 66/6
  • 11 = 11
  • L.H.S = R.H.S

Given : The mean of 6 numbers is 11. If five of them are 12, 10, 13, 7 and 8

To Find : 6th number

Solution:

Let say 6th number = x

then 6 numbers  are

x ,  12, 10, 13, 7 and 8

Sum fo all 6 numbers =  x + 12 + 10 + 13 + 7 + 8

=x + 50

Number of observations = 6

Mean = Sum of all observations / Number of observations

=> 11  =   (x + 50)/ 6

=> 66 = x + 50

=> 16 = x

Hence 6th number is 16
