The mean of a normal distribution is 500 and 16%of the values are greater than 600 . Find the standard deviation of this distribution .​

Given : mean of the normal distribution is 500 and 16% of the value is greater then 600

To Find :  the standard deviation of the distribution​

Solution:

Mean = 500

16% of the value is greater then 600

=> 84 % value are less then 600

84 % values refer to Z score = 0.995 ≈ 1

Z score = ( Value - Mean )/ SD

SD = Standard deviation

=> 1 = ( 600  - 500)/SD

=> SD = 100

standard deviation of the distribution​ = 100
