If the mean of 5 numbers is 16, then the sum of the numbers would be:

16×5= 80 (I have shown how this is possible in attachment)

So now, let the sixth number be x.

(80+x)/6= 21

80+x= 21×6

80+x= 126

X= 126- 80

X= 46

VERIFY:

(80+x)/6= 21

(80+46)/6= 21

126/6= 21

21= 21

LHS= RHS
