Answer :

  • The excluded observation is 35

Given :

  • The mean of five numbers is 27
  • One number is excluded their mean is 25

To find :

  • Excluded observation

Solution :

The mean of 5 numbers is 27 ,

》Sum of five numbers = 5 × 27

》Sum of five numbers = 135

Given that one number is excluded their mean is 25 so,

  • Let the number excluded be x
  • Sum is 135 - x

Number of observations = 5 - 1 = 4

According to question,

》25 = 135 - x / 4

》25 × 4 = 135 - x

》100 = 135 - x

》x = 135 - 100

》x = 35

Hence , The excluded observation is 35

Verification :

》25 = 135 - x / 4

》25 = 135 - 35 / 4

》25 = 100/4

》25 = 25

Hence, Verified.
