The excluded number is 45
Step-by-step explanation:
Let the five numbers used for mean are
V, W, X, Y, Z
The mean of five numbers is
(V+W+X+Y+Z) /5 = 37
Or
(V+W+X+Y+Z) = 37 ×5
V+W+X+Y+Z = 185 (i)
now mean of four numbers
Let Z be Excluded
Then
(V+W+X+Y) /4 = 35
Or
(V+W+X+Y) = 37 × 4
V+W+X+Y = 140 (ii)
Now subtract (ii) from (i)
V+W+X+Y+Z = 185
- (V+W+X+Y = 140)
V+W+X+Y+Z = 185
-V-W-X-Y = - 140
It gives
Z= 45
Hence, 45 be the number which is excluded.
Hope it helps
