The mean of five observations is 17.If one more observation is included then mean of the data is 18. Find the observation included.

ANSWER :

The observation which is added is 23

EXPLANATION :

Mean = sum/total no. of observations

17 = sum/5

Sum = 17×5 = 85

Now one observations is added, let it be x

Total observations = 6

Mean = 18

18 = (sum + x) / 6

Sum + x = 108

85 + x = 108

x = 108 - 85

x =23
