Answer:

Mean of 9 observations = 35 (Given)

Sum of 9 observations = 35×9

Sum of 9 observations =315

since 81 was misread as 18

Then, sum of new observations =[315- (wrong observation)+(correct observation)]

= 315-18+81

= 315+63= 378

The correct mean = some of new observation/total number of observations

Correct mean= 378/9= 42

Hence, the correct mean is 42.

Hope this will help you.

Given : Mean of 9 observation was found to be 35

Later on it was found that  81 was mis read as 18

To Find : Correct mean

Solution:

Short cut method :

81 was mis read as 18

Hence correction will be  81 -  18  =  63

Observation were 9

hence mean correction = 63/9 = 7

Earlier mean = 35

Correct  Mean = 35 + 7 = 42

Detailed method :

Mean of 9 observation was found to be 35

Hence sum = 9 * 35  =  315

81 was mis read as 18

Hence correct total = 315 - 18 + 81  =  378

Correct mean = 378/9  = 42
