Answer:

The mean value of x and y = 19

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that

Mean of numbers  = 12

Numbers = 8, 11, 12, x, y, 5 and 10

Mean of x and y =?

Using the =formula :-

Mean of n number = (Sum of n numbers)/total numbers (n)

Mean of 8, 11, 12, x, y, 5, 10 = \dfrac{(8+11+12+x+y+5+10)}{7}

              12 =\dfrac{ (46+x+y)}{7}

12 × 7 = 46 + x + y

84 = 46 + x + y

84 - 46 = x + y

38 = x + y

Therefore x + y = 38

Now find the mean of x and y :-

We have x + y = 38

We know the mean of n numbers =  (Sum of n numbers)/(total numbers (n)

Mean of x and y = Sum of x and y/2

                           = x+\dfrac{y}{2} \\\\  = \dfrac{98}{2}

Mean of x and y = 19
