Answer:

mean =sum of number ÷ number of numbers

     16   = 12+13+x+17+18+20÷6

      16  = 80+x÷6

     16×6=80+x

     96-80=x

        16  = x

to find median of the data

12,13,16,17,18,20

median is mean of 16 and 17

                      mean(16,17) = 16+17 / 2

                                            = 16.5

The mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set.

here all numbers are equal. So there is no mode.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hey mate !

Question:-

The mean of observations 12,13,X,17,18and 20 is 16. Find the value of x and median of the data given.

Answer:-

Part - 1 (to find value of X)

Given : 12,13,X,17,18,20

Mean : 16

To find : X

We know that :-

Mean = Sum of all terms/Total number of terms

Mean = 12+13+X+17+18+20/6

16 = 80 + X/6

16×6 = 80+X

96 = 80+X

X+80= 96

X = 96-80

X = 16 (Ans)

The value of X is 16.

Part - 2 (to find median)

Given : 12,13,16,18,17,20

Mean : 16

To find : Median

We know that :-

Median = (n+1/2) term {where n is the total number of terms}

Median = ( 6+1/2) term

Median = (7/2) term

Median = 3.5rd term

Median = 16 (Ans) {because 16 is the 3rd term in the given data}

The median of above data is 16.

(I haven't found out mode because mode means mean and mean is 16 as given in the question)

hope it helps you....
