LET THE 6 NUMBERS BE:

a,b,c,d,e,f

AND LET a BE THE NUMBER 23

MEAN=SUM OF OBSERVATIONS/NO.OF OBSERVATIONS.

MEAN=a+b+c+d+e+f/6

18=23+b+c+d+e+f/6

MULTIPLY 6 ON BOTH THE SIDES.

18×6=23+b+c+d+e+f

108-23=b+c+d+e+f

85=b+c+d+e+f(THIS IS THE SUM OF THOSE FIVE OBSERVATIONS.)

APPLY THE FORMULA,

MEAN=b+c+d+e+f/5

MEAN=85/5 [WRITTEN ABOVE]

MEAN=17

THEREFORE,THE MEAN OF THOSE 5 OBSERVATIONS=17
