Mean =\frac{\sum f.x}{\sum f}

         =\frac{25+290x}{5+12x}

But given that the mean of the distribution is 20

∴  \frac{25+290x}{5+12x}=20

⇒(25+290x)=20(5+12x)

⇒25+290x=100+240x

⇒290x-240x=100-25

⇒50x=75

⇒x=1.5

Therefore the value of x=1.5
