their mean proportional is 6.
➡ x: 6 : : 6 : y
➡ x × y = 6 × 6 = 36................. ( 1 )
and their third proportional is 1296
➡ x : y : : y : 1296
➡ y² / x ² = 1296 = 36².......................( 2 )
Substitute the value of x from equation ( 1 )
we have,
y² / (36 / y ) = 36²
y³ = ( 36 )³
y = 36
therefore,
x = 36/ y = 1
Hence,
the numbers will be 1 and 36.
