The mean salary paid to 500 employees working in a firm was found to be
Rs. 180.40. After disbursement of salaries for a certain month, it was discovered
that the salary of two employees was wrongly entered as Rs. 297 and Rs. 165
against their correct salary of Rs. 197 and Rs. 185, respectively. Find the correct

Let the salaries of 148 people's be :
x1,x1.......x147,x148

Mean = (x1+...+x148 + 297+165)/150
180.40×50 = (x1+...+x148 + 462)
(x1+...+x148) = 9020 - 462

x1+x2+.....x148 = 8558

New mean = (x1+...+x148 + 197+185)/150
= (8558+382)/150
= 59.6

Hence the correct mean of the salaries is Rs.59.6

kemagedai: What formula did you use?
SARDARshubham: The formula of mean = sum of all observations/ Total no. of observation
kemagedai: I understand that, but where did the "50" come from? Did you mean 150?
SARDARshubham: there is no 50
SARDARshubham: It's 150 only
