Given:

The mean wage of 100 workers per day was found to be 80. But later on, it was found that the wages of two labourers 93 and 59 were misread as 39 and 95.

To Find:

Find the correct mean wage per day.

Solution:

It is given that the mean wage of 100 workers per day is 80, so the total wage of 100 workers per day will be, as we know that the formula for mean is,

Mean=\frac{total Value}{No of Values}

Total wage=100*80

                  =8000

Now it is given that the value of two labourers of 93 and 59 was misread as 39 and 95,

So the difference between the actual and written value will be,

Difference=(93-39)+(59-95)

                 =18

So because this value was added in the original sum of total wages we will add it back and then find the mean of 100 workers accordingly using the formula,

Total wage=8000+18

                  =8018

So now the new mean will be

Mean=\frac{8018}{100} \\=80.18

Hence, the correct men of the daily wages are 80.18.
