Given,

Mean wages of all workers = Rs. 3400

Mean wages of skilled workers = Rs. 4160

Mean wages of unskilled workers = Rs. 2450

To find,

The ratio of skilled and unskilled workers.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Let, the total number of skilled workers = x

And, the total number number of unskilled workers = y

So,

Total workers = (x+y)

Total wages = Total number of workers × Mean wages of of all workers = (x+y) × 3400 = Rs. (3400x + 3400y) ....(1)

Now,

Total wages of skilled workers = Total skilled workers × Mean wages of skilled workers = x × 4160 = Rs. 4160x

Total wages of unskilled workers = Total unskilled workers × Mean wages of unskilled workers = y × 2450 = Rs. 2450y

Again,

Total wages = Rs. (4160x + 2450y) ....(2)

By equating equation (1) and equation (2), we get that :

4160x + 2450y = 3400x + 3400y

4160x - 3400x = 3400y - 2450y

760x = 950y

x/y = 950/760

x/y = 95/76

x/y = 5/4

x : y = 5:4

Hence, the ratio of skilled workers and unskilled workers is 5:4
