Explanation:
Our source of information is mostly media like press releases, spokesmen, television programmes, films, advertising, news articles, social media, and so on all influence what we see, what we hear, and how we are told we should interpret events. But is media trying to control us?
The media might not control us but can undoubtedly ‘influence us’. Media is so powerful that it is the fourth pillar of democracy and social media often comes across as a trendsetter. It is an important way of communicating with the masses. It could be anything from a ‘public service’ announcement giving us some kind of advice through to tell us how great a product is and we should go buy it.
A major use of media is government. Today’s media tends to either support the government or tends to be against the government for anything the government comes up with. The media is mostly biased. This can be done through overrating chaos which could provoke others to take part in it as unnecessary attention is being provided for a minor issue. Or a major issue being disregarded as it is too political which could harm the journalists.
Social media, a platform where individuals share their status, opinion, etc. When a well-known or followed individual expresses their opinion, (especially when it’s a blame game, chaotic or even a misunderstood concept) their followers tend to support and get misled. The opinion of the idol did influence his/her followers.
We cannot claim that the media controls what we think because it is ultimately our choice to listen to a narrative that appeals to us. This way, most of us tend to get support to our opinions by following certain channels that embolden or pamper our way of thinking.
The right way should be to make an intelligent choice of listening to those channels that are as bipartisan as possible. Or if there’s no choice, we have to be so open-minded that we listen to both the narratives however biased, opposite and appealing or nonappealing they are. This way, we would get to hear the perspectives from both sides and we can make an informed judgement.
Unlike in the ’80s or ’90s where there were very few channels which mostly were government-controlled, now we have several competing news agencies not controlled by the government and therefore express freely. The downside is that there is a lot of unhealthy competition between the media houses for getting more viewership and revenue. But in a healthy democracy, the media shouldn’t be a mouthpiece of the government but should be an independent entity as it is now.
Ultimately, it is left to how much the individuals are susceptible or vulnerable to believing everything that is fed to him by the media without applying logical reasoning.
Answer:
media has a great influence on us if you decide that which thing we support and which we oppose we are generally saying that people are greatly affected by the views of the medium and in this way media controls what we think we see that politicians use media for the on purpose if anybody wants to gain name and fame they use the media for the on purpose in fact media I think is the only strongest to the left for becoming famous although I can be wrong because there are some other ways also so overall in a nutshell we can say that media controls how and what we think
