The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending, list of numbers and can be more descriptive of that data set than the average. The median is sometimes used as opposed to the mean when there are outliers in the sequence that might skew the average of the values.

10,15,20,25,30,35,40= median=

Given:

20, 30,40,10,15,25,35

Solution:

Know that the the value separating the higher half from the lower half of a data sample, after arranging it either in ascending order or descending order.

Therefore arrange the data in ascending order,

\[ \Rightarrow 10,15,20,25,30,35,40\]

Notice that the number of sample is 7.

Therefore median,\[{\left\{ {\frac{{\left( {7 - 1} \right)}}{2} + 1} \right\}^{th}}\]term.

So that \[{4^{th}}\] term is a median i.e. 25.

Hence, the median of data 20, 30,40,10,15,25,35 is 25.
