Answer:

new median = 23

Step-by-step explanation:

total no. of observations,n = 10 (even no.)

Arranged data : 8,9,12,18,(x+2),(x+4),30,31,34,39

median = 24

median= [{(n/2) +1} th term + (n/2)th term] /2

=24= [ (10/2)+1 th term + 10/2 th term ] /2

=24= [6 th term + 5 th term ]/2

=24 = { (x+2) + (x+4) }/2

=24 = (2x + 6 )/2

=24= 2(x+3)/2

=24= x+3

= x = 24-3

=x = 21

new arranged data : 9,12,18,(x+2),30,31,34

new total no. of observations,n': 7 (odd no.)

new median= (n'+1)/2 th term

new median= 8/2 th term

new median= 4 th term

new median= x+2

new median= 21+2 [x=21]

new median=23
