Given:

The median of distribution is 35.

Class interval:- 0-10,10-20,20-30,30-40,40-50,50-60,60-70

Frequency:-2,3,x,6,5,3,2

To find:

The value of x?

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Since , we know Median is given by the formula

      Median=l+(\frac{\frac{n}{2} -cf}{f} )h

  • Since given median is 35, thus it lies between the interval 30-40 .
  • hence,  lower class limit, l= 30

            n=sum of frequency=21+x

            cf= commutative frequency=5-x

            h=length of interval=10

NOW put the values

        Median=30+(\frac{\frac{21+x}{2} -(5-x)}{6} )10\\\\35=30+(\frac{11-x}{12} )10\\\\\Rightarrow 35=\frac{180+55-5x}{6} \\\\\Rightarrow210=235-5x\\\\\Rightarrow-25=-5x\\\\\Rightarrow x=5

Hence, value of x is 5.
