The medieval period in Indian history saw the coming of the two important religions i.e. Sikhism and Islam. These religions have influenced our society tremendously. Keeping this in mind, make a report containing at least six teachings of those religions. Also write about their important religious places or place.

SIKHISM

 SIKHISM is the world’s 5TH largest religion, founded in the Punjab region of India about 500 years ago. Most of the world’s 25 million Sikhs live in India . Sikhism is a monotheistic religion meaning the Sikhs only believe in 1 god.

  SIKH TEACHINGS

 1)EQUALITY BEFORE GOD
Sikhs believe everyone ,i.e men and women are equal in gods eyes.

 2)UNIVERSE AND ALL FAITHS
 Sikhs believe that god created the universe and all faiths

3)GENEROSITY , SELF RELIANCE & HUMILITY
Sikhs are encouraged to develop their character through generosity , self reliance as well as humility .

4)JUSTICE
Sikhs believe god dispenses justice through the law of Karma .

5)SERVICE
the Sikh way of overcoming egoism through selfless service and constantly remembering the divine name .

6)SONG & DANCE
Sikhs believe that singing of the Supreme Timeless One is the most effective way to come in communion with the Supreme Timeless. One.

 IMPORTANT RELIGIOUS PLACES FOR SIKHS
  Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar India - this is the central shrine for Sikhs . It is a Golden temple .

ISLAM
 ISLAM is the world’s 2ND largest religion and was made public by Prophet Muhammad in Arabia in the 7th century CE. Islam is a monotheistic religion meaning the Muslims only believe in 1 god , Allah .

ISLAMIC TEACHINGS
 1)THE UNIVERSE
Islamic teaching views the universe as autonomous and that everything has its own laws and nature given by god .
 2)ANGELS
Muslims view angels as messengers and their duties include communicating revelations from God, glorifying God, recording every person's actions, and taking a person's soul at the time of death. Muslims believe that angels are made of light.
 3)GENEROSITY
Muslims believe in giving back to fellow man and giving of alms is stated in their Holy book the Quran
4)RESSERECTION
Muslims believe in heaven and hell .Muslims view heaven as a place of joy and blessings
 5)DIVINE WILL
this teaching emphasises that everything good and bad is to be measured .
6)FIVE PILLARS
Muslims have 5 pillars to their religion and these are ramadan , shahadah , salat , zakat and sawm
  IMPORTANT RELIGIOUS PLACES FOR MUSLIM
 Mecca in Saudi Arabia is the place where Prophet Muhammad was born and is sacred to Muslims and Muslims must make a pilgrimage at least once in their lives .

Teachings of Sikhism


*There is only one form of God and is the same for people of any religion.


*One must lead a truthful and virtuous life while maintaining a balance between their temporal and spiritual obligations.


*The path to salvation can be reached not by renouncing the world but by leading an honest life without giving into sins and temptations.


*The religion strongly disapproves following rituals like idol worship, fasting, visiting shrines, and various superstitions.


*All people are equal in the eyes of God irrespective of religion, sex and race.


*Devotion to God can be shown in form of prayers and good deeds such as charity.


The place of worship of Sikhs is called Gurudwara. Golden Temple in Amritsar is one of the most popular gurudwaras.

*A strong person is not one who knocks out his/her opponent but one who controls his/her temper.


*God does not have mercy on a person who does not have mercy for others.


*A person is a true Muslim only if he/she desires for others what he desires for himself/herself.


*Even the smallest good deed done must be considered significant.


*The namaz must be practised five times every day without fail.


*Everyone is expected to observe fast during the month of Ramadan. The only exceptions are children, sick and traveling people, nursing mothers, and pregnant ladies.


The place of worship of Muslims is known as Mosque. The mosque in Mecca is the most important shrine and all Muslims must visit this shrine at least once during their lifetime. This pilgrimage is called the Haj.
