Hey there!

The melting point of a solid is a measure of the force of attraction between its particles.

Explanation - When we heat a solid, the molecules of solid absorbs the heat and use it for breaking the force of attraction between them, and also their kinetic energy increases.

Well , in simple words, if the pressure on a substance / solid increases, the melting point will decrease.

If the melting point of a substance is higher that means that the molecules of that substance are close to each other due to strong force of attraction, if we will provide heat to that substance, then as the particles are holded strongly due to strong force of attraction, we need to heat the substance at a high temperature so that the molecules break the force of attraction and change its form, we need to heat it at high temperature to provide more heat, if we provide low temperature, heat won't be enough to break forces of attraction.

If the melting point of a substance is low, that means the molecules are close to each other but forces of attraction are not that strong, an when we will heat that substance, it will use the heat and will change its form, at even less heating point as that heat will be enough to break force of attraction.

So, melting point depends on force of attraction.
Lesser the force of attraction, the lesser the melting point.
Higher the force of attraction, the higher the melting point.

Hi there !!

It is true that the melting point of a solid is a measure of the force of attraction between its particles.

The reason behind it :
When a solid is heated , the particles of the solid gain heat . This heat causes the intermolecular bonds to start breaking away from each other.
Thus, the heat increases the kinetic energy of the particles and the particles start moving even faster.

We know ,
Melting points refers to the temperature at which a substance changes its state from solid to form a liquid.

•If the melting point of an object is low, then the substance will change its state faster.
In this case , the particles of matter are not so close from each other , i.e , their forces of attraction are less and are able to easily break away from their bonds and melt.

• If the melting point of a substance is high , the substance will take comparatively more time to change its state.
In this case, the molecules will be tightly packed and their forces of attraction will be comparatively more.
Thus, it will take more time to change its state from solid to liquid.

From the above conditions , it can be stated that the melting point of the solid depends on the intermolecular forces of attraction.

Thus,
The melting point of a solid is a measure of the forces of attraction between its particles.
