The molecules are held together by intermolecular force of attraction. More the force the fusion takes after some time only that means the melting point is high. So molecules with greater molecular forces have high melting point and less molecular forces have low melting point.

the molecules are attracted by certain force known as intermolecular force force find the molecule together and in this Force it is depend that how the molecule nature would be as if the intermolecular force is low then the the material would also not be much rigid and if it is high then it is much stronger. the boiling point of a substance also gives the same information as the bowling crease kinetic energy so it started breaking down the intermolecular force but if the force of attraction for intermolecular force is high then the particle would not melt and if the intermolecular force is less than the the kinetic energy required to break the intermolecular force would also be less and hence the melting point would also be low.
