The mimosa tree was the tree of Helen's paradise because it was the sweet allurement of the tree that helped Helen to overcome her fears.

She was reading alone in the summer house during a beautiful spring morning when she became aware of a wonderful subtle fragrance in the air. It seemed that the spirit of spring had passed through the summer house and she recognized the odour of the fragrance to be that of mimosa blossoms. It seemed to her to be one of the most exquisite things on earth, its delicate blossoms shrinking from the slightest earthly touch. Helen pulled herself up into the tree although she did encounter some difficulty in holding on as the branches were very large and the bark hurt her hands.

But a feeling of excitement suffused her from within and she kept on climbing higher and higher until she reached a little seat which somebody had built there long ago. Helen sat there for a long time feeling like a fairy on a rosy cloud, spending happy hours in the tree of paradise and thinking fair and beautiful thoughts.
