launcelot is debating whether he shld stay and continue 2 work 4 shylock or run away from his master. His conscience tells him 2 stay, but his desires tell him 2 go. launcelot's struggle illustrates the attitude of the Christians 2 work and responsibility at that time. He wld have believed that it was not the role of a servant 2 leave his master as they had been placed in their role by God .And thus characterized his thought of living as 'fiend' (devil)
