Demerits:-

*if there is no competition election will become pointless

*it creates a sense of disunity and fractionalism in every locality

*different parties and leaders often level allegations against one another

*parties and candidate often use dirty tricks to win elections

*some people say that this pressure to win electrol fights does not allow sensible long term policies to be formulated

*some good people who may wish to serve the country so not enter this arena

Merits:-

*our constitution makers were aware of these problems

*in an ideal political leaders known what is good for the people

*they ate motivated only by a desire to serve them

*they wanted to remain in power or get power and positions for themselves

*regular electoral competition provides incentives to political parties and leaders

*but if they fail to satisfy the votes with their work they will not able to win again
