Explanation:

As the effective nuclear charge acting on the valence shell electrons increases across a period, the tendency to lose electrons will decrease. Therefore, these electrons can be lost easily. Hence, metallic character decreases across a period and increases down a group.

Answer:

The periodic table is organised such that to group same properties of elements in one place like there is a place for halogens, alkali metals.

Similarly metals are arranged in left of periodic table and non-metals at the right and these two arranged in the order of increasing metal reactivity from left to right.

I think this would be the answer to your question.
