The method of applying zinc layer on reactive metals like iron is called galvanisation. This method is used to prevent this metals from corrosion .

For this purpose, the zinc metal is first converted into molten state into the furnace then this layer is coated on iron.

By this when iron is exposed to natural environment, the zinc first react with moisture and oxygen and the iron present inside is prevented.
