The Midday Meal Scheme is a school meal programme of the Government of India designed to better the nutritional standing of school-age children nationwide. The programme supplies free lunches on working days for children in primary and upper primary classes in government, government aided, local body, Education Guarantee Scheme, and alternate innovative education centres, Madarsa and Maqtabs supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and National Child Labour Project schools run by the ministry of labour. Serving 120,000,000 children in over 1,265,000 schools and Education Guarantee Scheme centres, it is the largest of its kind in the world.

This was specially launched in favor of poor child who can't even afford a square meal twice a day....
As per the planning, the scheme worked out well and helped the government to increase the attendance in schools....
This scheme helped the government to increase attendance in school as well as to increase the literacy rate throughout India.....
Even due to this scheme, many poor child who can't afford a square meal are not getting proper nourishment, are getting proper food and nourishment.They are not hungry anymore....
This scheme worked out because, the poor families who can't afford food sends their child to the school for the food and thus resulted in the scheme's success........
