Given : points (4, 6) and (–2, 8)

To Find : The mid-point of the line joining the points (4, 6) and (–2, 8)

(a) (3, 7)

(b) (3, 1)

(c) (1, 7)

(d) (6, 2)

Solution:

Mid points of points ( x₁ , y₁)  and ( x₂ , y₂)  is given by :

(x₁ + x₂ )/2 , (y₁ + y₂)/2

points (4, 6) and (–2, 8)

= ( 4 - 2)/2 , ( 6 + 8)/2

= 1 , 7

Hence (c) (1, 7)   is the mid point of  points (4, 6) and (–2, 8)
