P divides CD in 3 :2 ratio , y = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

The mid-point P of the line segment joining the points A (- 10, 4) and B (- 2, 0)

P = (-10  + (-2))/2 , ( 4 + 0)/2

P = ( -6 , 2)

P lies on the line segment joining the points C (- 9,-4) and D (- 4, y).

Let say P divides C & D in  m : n Ratio

=>  -6  = (m*(-4) + n(-9))/(m + n)      &   2 = (m*y + n(-4))/(m + n)

=> -6m - 6n = -4m - 9n

=> 3n = 2m

=> 3/2 = m/n

=> m : n :: 3 : 2

P divides CD in 3 :2 ratio

2 = (m*y + n(-4))/(m + n)

putting m = 3 & n = 2

=>  2 = (3*y + 2(-4))/(3 + 2)

=> 10 = 3y - 8

=> 3y = 18

=> y = 6
