The middle classes played an important role in non cooperation movement. Students and teachers stopped attending classes, people stopped going to offices and lawyers stopped practicing in government courts.
The movement slow down as there were no other institutions where students could study , people could work as they had to look for other alternatives to earn money and lawyers could practice law. Ultimately everyone had to return back to their work.
