A popular Victorian era romance, this tale is set at the time of the great plague of London in 1665, and starts with Sir Norman Kingsley being told about a supernatural mystic, La Masque, who can assist him in determining his future. Kingsley visits her and soon he is on a chase to find the love of his life who may or may not be dead.
The story echos Don Quixote and Sancho Panza searching for something that holds very little compensation; way too much risk and uncertainty; and not enough meat for the reader to even care about the girl or the goal.
