In metaphase all the chromatin fibre gets condensed resulting in the formation of chromosome which are visible in under the microscope

Hence chromosome gets arranged in the straight line

In metaphase the chromosome which are arranged at the center gets spilt resulting in the formation of two daughter chromosome.

Hope it helps

in anaphase the chromosomes move apart due to division of centromere as a result two daughter chromosomes from each pair due to contraction of spindle fibre
