Given :

Load on the brass rod = 400N

Minimum diameter of the brass rod = 1 mm

To Find :

The elastic limit of the brass = ?

Solution :

  • The stress on the brass rod is given by the formula

            Stress = \frac{Force}{Area} = \frac{F}{A}

  • By substituting the values in the given above relation, we get

            Stress = \frac{400}{\frac{\pi d^{2}  }{4} }

            Stress = \frac{400\times4}{\pi \times10^{-6} }

            Stress = 509.29 Mpa

The elastic limit of the brass rod is 509.29 Mpa.
