The length of the minute hand is equal to the radius of the circle the minute hand sweeps ⇒ 60 mins = πr^2

⇒ 20 mins = πr^/3

substituting the values r = 3.5 cm

⇒πr^/3 = 12.828 cm^2

Given :   minute hand of a clock is 3.5cm long

To Find  : . area swept by it in 20 minutes

Solution:

Minute hand covers a round / circle  in 60 minutes

=> 60 minutes = 360°

=> 1 minute = 360/60 = 6°

=> 20 Minutes = 20 x 6 = 120°

Angle = 120°

Area covered = ( 120°/360)πr²

=  ( 120°/360)π(3.5)²

= (1/3)(22/7)(3.5)²

= 12.83  cm²
