The mirror poem is optimistic or pessismistic because in the last stanza's of poem ,the poet talks about the woman who had once seen herself as a young girl in the mirror and now day by day growing old and looking like a'terible fish'.Next, the mirror is exact and silver with no preconceptions .It gives the truth .It is suppose to instigate neither optimism not pessimism  because it is entirely impartial .It is our inabilility as a human to accept ageing and death, that casts the pessimistic shadow.

Hope it helps u.
