The mirror used in search lights is  to spread longer distance.

Explanation:

We need an intense parallel beam of light when searching for lights. If the source is placed at the center of the concave spherical mirror, only the paraxial rays are rendered parallel.  But in the case of a parabolic mirror, when the source is in focus, the beam of light produced over the entire cross-section of the mirror is a parallel beam.

Concave mirror is used in vehicle headlights, because when the headlight bulb is placed at the center of the concave mirror, it allows the light to spread to infinity (longer distances). Concave mirrors are also used in torches for the same reason.
