Modi script is used to write the marathi language. It was first used as a official script by Hemadpant, who was a prime minister under Yadava dynasty in late 13th century. It was used until early 20th century when Bombay presidency decided to replace it by balbodh style devnagri. Balbodh style was available for printing too which made it preferred.
Modi script was mainly used in administrative work or writing accounts (very similar to mahajani script used by businessman of north India to maintain bahikhata/desinama).
It is continuously tried to revive modi learning by modi experts in Pune (earstwhile capital of Peshwas).
