in marshy areas the roots of the plans are modified in various way according to their functions. pneumataphore are the modified roots that grows above the soil for respiratory functions n due to high salt concentration in the water makes the condition unfavorable for the roots. so for their better survibility their roots gets modified. another modifications is that their roots are twisted with each other making themselves rigid n durable. as we know that the soil in the marshy land are sort of sluggish n can't fix themselves firmly so the twisted mechanism of their roots n stem helps them to face storms n other calamities. hence due to their these kind of structure they are also considered as biological kidneys
