The molarity of 200 mL of a solution is 4 M. What will be it’s molarity if 300 mL of water is added to it?

By definition,  molarity=moles⋅of⋅solutevolume⋅of⋅solution , and given this quotient, units of  mol⋅L−1  result.

And in the given problem, we can work out the number of moles in the starting solution, and THEN divide this molar quantity by the new volume, the which WE ASSUME to be additive…

And so…

C2=500⋅mL×10−3L⋅mL−1×0.2⋅mol⋅L−1(200+500)⋅mL×10−3L⋅mL−1  

=0.350⋅mol⋅L−1 .
