Correct Question :

The momentum of a body mass 5 kg is 500 kg m/s. Find its kinetic energy...

Given :

Mass of the body = 5 kg

Momentum = 500 kg m/s

To Find :

Kinetic energy of the body.

Solution :

❖ Momentum is measured as the product of mass and velocity.

Mathematically, p = m v

First of all we need to find velocity of body.

By substituting the given values;

➙ p = m v

➙ 500 = 5 × v

➙ v = 500/5

v = 100 m/s

♦ Kinetic energy is an energy which a body possesses by virtue of being in motion.

Kinetic energy of a body of mass m moving at a velocity of v is given by

  • k = 1/2 mv²

➠ k = 1/2 × 5 × (100)²

➠ k = 1/2 × 50000

k = 25000 J = 25 kJ
