Given :- The monthly incomes of a and b are in the ratio 3:7 and their expenses are in the ratio 1:3. If each of them saves rs.200 at the end of a month, find the annual income of a ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that,

  • income of a = 3x
  • income of b = 7x
  • expenditure of a = y
  • expenditure = 3y .

we know that,

  • Income - Expenditure = Saving .

So,

→ 3x - y = 200 --------- (1)

→ 7x - 3y = 200 -------- (2)

Multiply first equation by 3 and subtracting (2) from (1),

→ 3(3x - y) - (7x - 3y) = 3*200 - 200

→ 9x - 7x - 3y + 3y = 600 - 200

→ 2x = 400

→ x = 200 .

Therefore,

→ Monthly income of a = 3x = 3 * 200 = Rs.600 .

Hence,

Annual income of a = 600 * 12 = Rs.7200 (Ans.)
