Given : The monthly salaries of two person are in the ratio of 3:5. If each receives an increase of Rs 20 in salary, the ratio is altered to 13:21.

To Find : What are the salaries?

ㅤㅤ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

❍ Let us assume, that the salary of first and second person is 3x and 5x respectively.

☆ According to the question,

\sf{ \dfrac{3x + 20}{5x + 20} = \dfrac{13}{21} }

\sf{21(3x + 20) = 13(5x + 20) }

\sf{63x + 420 = 65x + 260}

\sf{420 - 260 = 65x - 63x}

\sf{2x = 160}

\sf{x = \cancel\dfrac{160}{2} }

\sf{x = 80}

Therefore, the salaries are :

First person = 3x = Rs 240

Second Person = 5x = Rs 400

Let their salaries be 3x and 5x.

According to the question,

(3x + 20) ÷ (5x + 20) = 13/21

21 (3x + 20) = 13 (5x + 20)

63x + 420 = 65x + 260

420 - 260 = 65x - 63x

160 = 2x

x = 80

3x = 3×80 = 240

5x = 5×80 = 400

Therefore, the respective salaries are Rs. 240 and Rs. 400
