The moon's surface is covered with craters but earth surface has very few craters. Can you explain why?

it is because the earth is surrounded by an atmosphere that protects the earth from craters and ultraviolet rays. when craters come and hit the atmosphere it breaks them and blocks them from entering the earth, on the other hand moon does not have an atmosphere and hence gets hit by craters
