When I was a child along with my sister who is a year younger and a brother 5 years younger, we were always treated very equitably by my parents. They used to spend exactly the same amount of money on presents, be very precise in dividing any treats etc.. Anyway it didn't snow very much in the area I lived in, but one night it started snowing at about 10 pm. I've always been insomniac so I think I noticed and snuck down to my parents. I begged them to go and let my play outside, and to my surprise my Dad actually said yes! I think he agreed to walk once around the block with me, the snow was absolutely pristine and deep and I held his hand as we stomped around making the only footprints. My sister and brother were fast asleep as was every other kid in the neighborhood and I felt so privileged to be out there in that very strange orange snowy light. The next morning it had turned to rain and washed away, but I've always held it in my head as a beautiful childhood moment.
