  • Litmus paper is made by the chemical substance called litmus that is extracted from lichens.
  • The solution of litmus contains some dyes which are absorbed on the filter paper and by this way litmus papers are made.
  • Usually, there are two colors of litmus paper available. One is red and the other is blue.
  • The red litmus remains red in contact with acid, whereas as changes into blue when it comes in contact with the base.
  • The blue litmus remains blue in base, whereas in acid it changes into red color.
  • As litmus is a natural extract the litmus paper is considered as natural indicators.
