 Burning magnesium

Magnesium is a metal that burns brightly in air. If you light a magnesium strip without any mixtures in it, it will give off a bright and blinding flame that is harmful to the human eye. Burning magnesium resembles a welding operation, because of the large spectrum of radiation: the substance releases harsh ultraviolet light. The burning temperature is around 3,000 degrees Celsius.

The chemical equation, Mg + O2 MgO shows this reaction but it needs to be balanced to make 2Mg + O2 2MgO.
