He was Aurangzeb's third son, who came to throne in 1707 at the ripe age of 64.

  • Jahandar Shah (Born 1661 - Died 1713)

He succeeded Bahadur Shah in 1712, but managed to rule only for one year. He was deposed by his nephew, Farrukhsiyar.

  • Farrukhsiyar (Born 1685 - Died 1719)

He came to the throne with the help of Sayyid brothers (two powerful ministers), but when he tried to free himself from their influence, they killed him in 1719.

  • Alamgir II (Born 1699 - died 1759)

During his rule, the English East Company established a foothold in Bengal in 1757, by defeating Siraj-ud-daulah, the Nawab of Bengal.

  • Shah Alam II  (Born 1728 - Died 1806)

He came to the throne in 1759 and unsuccessfully tried to oppose the English East India Company, which had already begun fortifying the three cities of Bombay (Mumbai), Madras (Chennai), and Calcutta (Kolkata).

  • Akbar II (Born 1760 - Died 1837)

He ascended the throne in 1806, but could not revive the lost glory of the Mughal Empire and remained a British pensioner.

  • Bahadur Shah Zafar (Born 1775 - Died 1862)

Also referred to as Bahadur Shah II, he was the last Mughal Emperor. In 1857, he was taken captive by the British and exiled to Rangoon, where he died in 1862.
