Multiparty system is adopted by the India. political system to absorb the social regional and geographical diversity of the country.
Though the multiparty system has an opprtunity for all the political parties for a reasonable chance to come into power it makes the things very confusing and messy.

the multiparty system has both and demerits because if we see the merit is India is a great diverse country consisting of various religions, castes, linguistic group etc. it consists of people having different mindsets. it would become very difficult for a single party system to control such a diverse nation n enable people to live peacefully and harmoniously. so, multiparty system would have a better control over people.
demerit is, nowadays we can see that a no. of parties are forming. all of them have different plans n opinions for ruling the country. and most of the time the ideologies of various parties are seen to be similar, so this creates a lot of confusion among the voters to choose the best party for them. another demerit would be, dirty n negative politics are involving everywhere n the main motive is to win the election. in order to win the election parties apply dirty tricks n use muscle powers n they dont even fear to kill people for winning elections
