the multiplicative inverse of a + b is 1 upon - 12 if if a is equal to -4 what is the value of b​

Answer:

Multiplicative inverse is a number such that it's product with it's original number is always 1.

So , for 1/2 , the number that should multiply 1/2 resulting 1 is obviously 2.

Hence , 2 is the multiplicative inverse of 1/2 and alternatively we can say that both are multiplicative inverse of each others.

Coming to question,

Multiplicative inverse of (a + b) must be 1 / (a + b).

Hence ,According to question,

1/(a + b) = 1/(-12)

Hence ,

a + b = -12 ( by cross-multiplication)

Now , a = -4 (Given)

hence , b = -8

Hence , value for 'b' must be negative 8.
